About the Baseball Program.

Horse Hill Community League’s Baseball program is in partnership with Northeast Zone Sports Edmonton. We began hosting teams in 2019 and continue to expand our team sponsorship.

Age Range

The program covers a wide range of skill and commitment levels for boys and girls ranging between 4 and 18 years of age.

House League

The House League program is designed for players of all skill sets and athletic abilities; all are welcome to play and there are no tryouts. The house league program is intended to provide all players with a fun and fully inclusive playing environment with a focus on skill development, sportsmanship and recreation. Players in this league have skill and experience levels that range from introductory (i.e. never played on a baseball team before) to rep team calibre.

All House League teams are co-ed and play their games in north Edmonton (from St. Albert Trail to the east City Limits). The season lasts from the beginning of May to the end of June. The majority of games for our 11U and 13U players will take place within communities in the NEZ and a few will be either in Fort Saskatchewan or Gibbons. 15U and 18U teams will travel in Edmonton and the surrounding area. Coaches are typically parent volunteers and therefore have a wide range of experience; however, NEZ strives to ensure that all coaches are NCCP certified. All coaches, regardless of level, are also required to complete in the Respect in Sport training program.

Time commitment varies depending on coach/parent preference but generally is as follows:

  • One practice per week

  • 2 games per week (weekdays)

Divisions

Blastball (for 4 & 5 year old boys and girls)

BlastBall is once-a-week program held on Thursday evenings from the beginning of May to the end of June and is designed to introduce the sport of baseball to 4 & 5 year old boys and girls.  BlastBall teaches all of the basic skills in a fun and exciting way, with continuous action and simple to follow rules.  Teams are small – a maximum of 5 kids.  Register your child or bring a group of friends and register as a team.

Rally Cap (for 6 & 7 year old boys and girls)

Teams play twice a week on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  It is a grassroots program with an emphasis on skill development. It is designed to teach baseball skills, rules and strategy. It teaches competitiveness with an emphasis on good sportsmanship. Each team has 6 players and allows players to improve their different skills. Three teams meet at the diamond with 2 teams playing a game while 1 team practices in the outfield. The teams rotate throughout the time slot for equal playing and practice time.

9U (for 8 & 9 year old boys and girls)

9U is a continuation of the Rally Cap program. Emphasis remains on skill development and sportsmanship. Two teams of 9 players each meet at the diamond for games on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Expect to practice once a week.  9U teams play in the NEZ League and end their season with playoffs. Teams participate in the NEZ Rookie Tournament and in Rally Cap Days.

11U (for 10 & 11 year old boys and girls)

11U Baseball is the category where players start to pitch. NEZ Baseball follows the Baseball Canada pitch-count rules, so all players are encouraged to learn to pitch. Our 11U teams play on Tuesdays & Thursdays in a league with Fort Saskatchewan and Gibbons. 11U teams play in the NEZ Tournament and participate in Rally Cap Days. Pitching clinics are held throughout the season.  Expect a team practice once a week.

13U (for 12 & 13 year old boys and girls)

Teams play Mondays & Wednesdays in a league with Fort Saskatchewan and Ardrossan.  Baseball Canada pitch-count rules are followed so all players are encouraged to continue to develop their pitching skills.  Pitching clinics are held throughout the season.  Expect a team practice once a week.   13U teams participate in the NEZ Tournament.

15U (for 14 & 15 year old boys and girls)

NEZ 15U & 18U teams play in the Baseball Alberta Edmonton Rural & Recreation Baseball League and games may be played on any day of the week, throughout the Capital region.  The season is May and June with playoffs ending at the end of June.
